Dear Forum Members,

Although not about biotechnology and not hosted by the FAO Biotechnology Forum, I thought that some of you might like to know that I will soon be moderating an FAO e-mail conference about impact assessment of agricultural research. The announcement for the conference is provided below. It provides some background to the conference, explains what the conference is about, how it will work and how people may join. Its provisional title is "Ex post impact assessment of agricultural research: Experiences, lessons learned and perspectives" and it takes place from 5 May to 1 June 2014.

Dear Forum Members,

Since the FAO Biotechnology Forum began (some 13 years and 19 conferences ago!), we have published all the Background Documents and all the Summary Documents prepared on the Forum website (http://www.fao.org/biotech/biotech-forum/).

Some of them also provided the basis for a number of FAO books. For 2 of these books, copies are available on request. These are:

We wish to announce that Conference 19 of the FAO Biotechnology Forum begins on Monday 4 March and runs for three weeks, finishing on Sunday 24 March 2013. The title of the conference is "Impacts of genomics and other 'omics' for the crop, forestry, livestock, fishery and agro-industry sectors in developing countries".

We are happy to announce that the FAO Biotechnology Forum (http://www.fao.org/biotech/biotech-forum/) will host its next e-mail conference from 4 to 24 March 2013 and that its provisional title is "Current and future impacts of genomics for the crop, forestry, livestock, fishery and agro-industry sectors in developing countries".

Genomics is the study of all the genetic material (genome) of an organism. The genomes of several hundred species, including mammals, fish, trees, crops, bacteria and viruses, have already been sequenced or are currently being sequenced. Dear Forum Members,

The Summary Document is now available of the FAO e-mail conference on "GMOs in the pipeline: Looking to the next five years in the crop, forestry, livestock, aquaculture and agro-industry sectors in developing countries" that took place from 5 November to 2 December 2012. It was the 18th conference hosted by the FAO Biotechnology Forum since its launch in 2000 (http://www.fao.org/biotech/biotech-forum/).
