Dear all,
Carryover of veterinary drugs in feed can occur during feed processing, handling, transportation, delivery or in feeding animals on-farm. The risk of unavoidable and unintentional veterinary drug residues from feed carryover and/or transfer from feed to food of animal origin is unacceptable when it causes adverse health effects in target and/or non-target animals and/or humans consuming food originating from these animals. If carryover is not properly managed, contaminated feed can directly harm species that are sensitive to the unintended veterinary drug they consume, and /or can result in residues in food of animal origin such as meat, milk

Why it matters to reduce the use of antimicrobials in animal production and how the feed sector can contribute.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major global threat of increasing concern for human and animal health. AMR causes antimicrobial treatments to be ineffective, increases human and animal mortality, and results in more severe or prolonged illnesses and production losses in agriculture. Inappropriate and excessive use of antimicrobials, in both human health care and in the agricultural sector, speeds up the development of micro-organisms resistant to said substances. Antimicrobials are used in animal production to

Dear all,

Animal feed safety impacts on animal health, welfare and productivity, the health of feed producers, handlers and users, as well as the safety of the human food supply and the livelihood of farmers. Safe feed helps to reduce production costs, maintains or increases food quality and reduces food losses and wastes. Animal feed is an integral part of the food chain and its safety has been recognized as a shared value and a shared responsibility.

Dear colleagues,
Please find attached information about the AnimalChange training course and workshop in Dakar in mid-January.
Results from the FP7 project on livestock and climate change AnimalChange will be presented during the workshop, and are of interest to scientists, policy makers, extension services and private sector.
The training course is targeted at young scientists from West and North Africa. There is a very tight deadline for those who want to apply for funding to attend the training course.
