After steadily declining for over a decade, global hunger appears to be on the rise once more, with multiple forms of malnutrition threatening the health of millions.
The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World<http://bit.ly/2ybBzG6> warns that the greater number of conflicts, whose impacts are often exacerbated by climate-related shocks, is one of the main drivers behind this shift. We are pleased to share with you the recently launched Capacity Development Portal<http://bit.ly/2aHY88g>, which offers a wide range of tools and resources for practitioners working to develop country capacities in food security, nutrition, and agricultural development.
FAO’s strategic and inclusive capacity development approaches target national and local institutions as well as individuals, thereby promoting long-lasting changes in country capacity.
The portal’s resources include learning manuals, short practical tools, as well as videos, e-learning courses, case studies and stories about capacity development projects around the world.

The State of Food and Agriculture 2015
Social protection and agriculture: breaking the cycle of rural poverty

Dear Members,
We would like to inform you, that the 2015 edition of The State of Food and Agriculture<http://bit.ly/SI4EzU> (SOFA 2015) was released today.
Despite significant progress in meeting the Millennium Development Goals on poverty and hunger, almost a billion people still live in extreme poverty (less than $1.25 per person per day) and 795 million still suffer from chronic hunger. Much more will have to be done to achieve the new Sustainable Development Goals

Recognizing the importance of reliable information on forests, the 21st Committee on Forestry requested FAO to prepare a set of voluntary guidelines on national forest monitoring.
