Each year, the Activity Group 3 under the Working Group on Capacity Building (WGCB) holds a regional capacity building event. In October of this year, the

6th GBEP Bioenergy Week was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The event gathered over 170 participants from four continents.

It's been 10 years since the official launch of GBEP at the 14th session of the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD14). GBEP was founded on the idea that bioenergy can significantly contribute to energy access and security, climate change mitigation, food security, and ultimately sustainable development. The last decade has marked considerable growth for the organization, now counting with more than 70 members and an expanded number of activities in different countries.

Hosted by the Government of Indonesia in cooperation with the GBEP Secretariat and the support of the Governments of Brazil and Italy, as well as of the International Energy Agency, the Asian Development Bank and GIZ, the event gathered some 120 participants among scientists, government officials and private sector representatives. GBEP Partners and Observers convened in Rome at FAO Headquarters from 10 to 14 November 2014 for the Partnership's annual round of official meetings and events. At the 17th GBEP Steering Committee, held on 14 November, members welcomed Jamaica as a new Observer and Mr Francesco La Camera, Director General at the Italian Ministry of the Environment Land and Sea, as new Chair under the re-confirmed Co-Chairmanship of Italy and Brazil for the biennium 2015-2016.

At the European Parliament in Brussels on 24 June, as part of EU Sustainable Energy Week 2013, GBEP and PANGEA organised the event "Ensuring Access to Sustainable Bioenergy Globally". Along with representatives from GBEP and PANGEA, the event saw a mixture of speakers from both private and public sectors, to give a well-balanced, evidence-based forum in which sustainable bioenergy, and its opportunities and challenges, could be discussed.

At the end of an intense week of GBEP technical meetings, the 14th Steering Committee of the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) paved the way forward for the next biennium by reconfirming the Chairmanship of Italy and Brazil for the next biennium and by endorsing the forthcoming capacity building activities in Latin America.
