Dear Subscriber, We are pleased to send you the new issue of the FAO Rice Price Update: Brief commentary:
· In November 2014, the FAO All Rice Price Index (2002-2004=100) averaged 232 points, 1 percent less than in October. Much of the decline resulted from a 21 percent slump in the aromatic rice prices, caused by a shift of quotations from the old to the new rice crops. Its effect on the overall index was dampened by a surge of the Japonica price index, itself the result of the reintroduction in the computation of the sub-index of the Egyptian medium

· In October 2014, the FAO All Rice Price Index (2002-2004=100) averaged 235 points, down another 1.4 percent from the 238 point recorded in September and the second consecutive monthly decline. This time, the weakness affected all market segments, with prices falling the most for the higher quality Indica rice (-2.4 percent), followed by the lower quality Indica (-1.6 percent), fragrant rice (-1.3 percent) and Japonica rice (-0.8 percent).

· In September 2014, the FAO All Rice Price Index (2002-2004=100) averaged 238 points, down 1.4 percent from 242 points in August, reversing a 3-month period of steady gains. The fall of the index value reflected marked declines in the Indica rice segment, as prices of both Japonica and Aromatic rice were little changed. The higher quality Indica rice (defined as containing less than 20% brokens) underwent the steepest slide, shedding 3.5 percent from August, while the lower quality Indica fell

· In July 2014, the FAO All Rice Price Index (2002-2004=100) averaged 238 points, 2 points more than in June. The slight increase was mostly sustained by a firming of prices of Indica rice, both of the lower and higher qualities. Quotations of Aromatic rice also moved up slightly, but they remained unchanged in the case of Japonica rice.

· In May 2014, the FAO All Rice Price Index (2002-2004=100) averaged 235 points, 2 points less than in April. The slight decline was caused by falling Japonica prices, with the corresponding sub-index shedding 6 points. The other sub-indices were either stable, as in the case of aromatic rice, or rising marginally in the case of, both, the higher quality and lower quality Indica (up 2 points and 1 point respectively).

Dear Subscriber, We are pleased to send you the new issue of the FAO Rice Price Update: Brief commentary:
· In March 2014, the FAO All Rice Price Index (2002-2004=100) averaged 238 points, virtually unchanged from February. However, movements diverged across market segments, with a pronounced fall in the price of the higher quality Indica compensating for slightly stronger quotations of Japonica, lower quality Indica and aromatic rice.

Brief commentary:
· In December 2013, the FAO All Rice Price Index (2002-2004=100) averaged 227 points, up slightly from 224 points in November. Much of the index firmness came from higher quotations of aromatic rice, but prices in the other market segments were also up or unchanged.
· Overall, international prices in November have not changed since the previous month, as the FAO All Rice Price Index (2002-2004=100) averaged 224 points, similar to October. A revival of import demand in Asia lifted the quotations of the higher quality Indica rice. The fragrant rice market also showed strength, but both the lower quality Indica and the Japonica rice segments were under pressure.

Dear Subscriber, We are pleased to send you the new issue of the FAO Rice Price Update. Please note that the methodology used to calculate the FAO Food Price Index, of which the FAO Rice Price Index is one component, has been revisited slightly, as reported in the special feature of the November 2013 issue of the FOOD OUTLOOK publication (http://www.fao.org/docrep/019/i3473e/i3473e.pdf). As a result, the values of the FAO Rice Index, which remains based on 2002-2004, have changed somewhat compared to those previously published, without, however, altering their trajectory.

All the various types of rice were affected, but the drop was most pronounced for the lower quality Indica. Prices of Japonica rice, which had been extremely firm until August, also recorded a sharp 6 percent slide in September.
Dear Subscriber, We are pleased to send you the new issue of the FAO Rice Price Update: Brief commentary:

Dear Subscriber, We are pleased to send you the new issue of the FAO Rice Price Update: Brief commentary:
· The FAO All Rice Price Index (2002-2004=100) remained little changed in July at a value of 241 points. Quotations of high quality Indica and aromatic varieties registered small declines during the month, but a sustained strengthening of Japonica prices compensated for their retreat.

Dear Subscriber, We are pleased to send you the new issue of the FAO Rice Price Update: Brief commentary:
· The FAO All Rice Price Index (2002-2004=100) was unchanged at 240 in May 2013, as a firming of Japonica rice quotations compensated for slightly falling prices for Indica (both higher and lower qualities) and aromatic rice. In the case of aromatic rice, the decline of the sub-index in May was the first after ten monthly increases and only caused by faltering quotations of Thai fragrant rice as Basmati prices remained on the rise.
Dear Subscriber, We are pleased to send you the new issue of the FAO Rice Price Update: Brief commentary:
· FAO has revised the price series corresponding to Pakistan ordinary basmati prices since June 2011, which results in slight changes in the values of the FAO ALL Rice Price index in the successive months.

· The FAO All Rice Price index was virtually unchanged in October, as stronger quotations for aromatic rice compensated for weaker prices for the higher quality Indica and for Japonica rice varieties.
· Ample stock supplies ahead of the new harvest are exerting some downward pressure on rice prices in Thailand. Prices in other origins were mostly stable or higher than last month.
