Dear colleagues

The China "Young Talent Programme" offers the opportunity to work for six months
at Chinese research institutions. The Programme covers all academic sectors and
institutions but the present invitation targets only eligible scientists with a
specific interest in crop monitoring and forecasting. If this is your case, you
are welcome to drop a line directly to Xue Shuyi ([log in to unmask]) to obtain
more details and application forms. The deadline for application is 25th of July
2013.

*Here is some additional information: s*uccessful applicants will participate
for six months in the work of the CropWatch Unit under prof. Wu
Bingfang.CropWatch is China's global crop monitoring system, established 1998
and designed specifically to use remote sensing data to assess national and
global crop production and related indicators. The selected candidate(s) will
participate in the development and improvement of the yield, area and production
estimation of wheat, maize, rice, and soy-bean in China and in the major
food-producing countries in the world. To do so, they will work in close
collaboration with CropWatch staff and students (MSc and PhD) at the development
of new forecasting variables and indicators, their calibration and their
operationalization for routine operation. Depending on background, expertise and
personal research interest of the candidates, a mutually agreeable work-plan
will be prepared upon their arrival at CAS in Beijing. The candidates' technical
background is expected to be in remote sensing, biological/ecological sciences,
crop modelling, water resources, agricultural meteorology/climatology, GIS,
economics or any related field relevant to the international monitoring of crop
growing conditions, crop or crop price modelling and crop production forecasting.

Candidates must not be older than 45, with a PhD or equivalent experience (*).
Travel costs will be covered and candidates will receive a monthly stipend of
12500 RMB (1570€ or 2050 US$) to cover accommodation, living expenses and health
insurance.

Please do distribute this announcement to your friends, colleagues and students!
