Dear Agromet-L subscribers,
Welcome to the new Agromet-L!
As the FAO mailserv sever that had hosted Agromet-L was decommissioned, we have migrated Agromet-L to a new listserv server. I am sorry for the inconvenience caused by the service interruption.
Below please find a welcome message that is sent out to new subscribers to understand how the new Agromet-L functions. Most importantly, please use this address, [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> , when you want to send a message to all the list members.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely yours,
Hideki Kanamaru

The following is the original welcome message that tells you the history of Agromet-L.
The idea for this Conference was first brought up at the meeting of the
20th Anniversary of AGRHYMET in Niamey (Niger) at the end of 1994. Many
participants found that an internet conference would be a convenient way
for the agrometeorological community to exchange news, data, know-how,
and to discuss operational problems.
The 11th meeting of the WMO Commission for Agricultural Meteorology
(CAgM) in Cuba (February 1995) took up the subject again, when Venezuela,
Costa Rica, Cuba and Mexico (supported by several other countries and
international organisations) proposed the creation of a Latin American
network on agrometeorology.
The geographic scope of this Conference is global. It is hoped that, at
least at the initial stages, Latin American agrometeorologists will join
to discuss the subjects that were brought forward in Havana, from
research to agrometeorological operations, from data and software to
advice to the farming community.
WMO and FAO are also proposing this new agromet-L mail list with the hope
that it will facilitate contacts between continents, and, in particular,
between developed and developing countries.
For the time being, the list is unmoderated, as this provides a much less
formal and easier access than in moderated lists. In the future,
depending on the subjects discussed, the number of participants, their
geographic origin, etc, the list may be split into more areas, subjects,
languages...
You are encouraged to publicise this list and to use the list to
publicise your agrometeorological and agroclimatological activities.
