I wish to inform the agrometeorological community that Professor Kees
Stigter, former president of the WMO Commission for Agricultural
Meteorology and founder of the International Society of Agrometeorology
INSAM, passed away two days ago at the age of 79, in Indonesia, where he
usually resided between his numerous travels.

Thanks to his dedication, sense of initiative and seemingly endless work
capacity, Prof. Stigter contributed considerably to increasing the
international visibility of agrometeorology.

A detailed obituary and biographical sketch will be published shortly on
the INSAM website.

R. Gommes
Current President, INSAM
Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing
