Dear readers,

The June 2012 issue of the Asia Pacific Food Situation Update (APFSU) reports that the Philippines has requested tenders for 100 000 tonnes of rice from Thailand and Viet Nam. Cambodia's leader Hun Sen is appealing to OPEC to consider the impacts of rising fuel prices on hunger, while India is seeking to export more wheat to Iran.

Global food prices fell sharply, with the FAO Global Food Pirce Index declining by 4 percent in May on ample supplies of commodities and a strengthening US Dollar. FAO has raised its forecast for cereals production in 2012 by 48.5 million tonnes since April to 2 419 million tonnes, a 3.2 percent increase over last year and a new record.

Best regards,
