Dear Readers,

The July 20121 issue of the Asia Pacific Food Situation Update (APFSU) reports that the DPRK is in need of additional food aid because of a drought that has damaged many non-paddy crops in key growing areas of the country. Iran's attempts to barter oil for grain with India and Pakistan appear to be running into difficulties, and analysts expect the Islamic Republic will have to purchase grain on the open markets at higher prices

Global food prices fell for the third straight month, and are at their lowest level since September 2010. But unusually hot and dry weather is having a negative effect on the maize crop in the United States and grain crops in the Russian Federation and could push prices higher in coming months.
Please feel free to share the APFSU with other interested colleagues. Please let us know if you would like to be removed from this mailing list.
Best regards,
