Dear Subscribers,

Please see below the FAO report on: The future of food and agriculture -
Trends and challenges, released recently.

The report mentions a global CA adoption figure of 117 M ha where as the
global CA figure for 2013/14 was around 160 M ha, and since 2008/09, the CA
area globally had increased at an annual rate of about 10 M ha (which is
equal to the whole land area of Portugal being transformed from
conventional tillage agriculture to Conservation Agriculture).

Dear Members,

We would like to point your attention to a new FAO report, relased today,
which analyses current trends that impact the future ability of mankind to
feed itself. In a scenario of a growing population and moderate economic
growth, global demand for agricultural products will increase by 50
percent, increasing the risk of additional pressures on over-strained and
depleted natural resources.

As we plan ahead,* will today’s agriculture and food systems be able to
sustainably meet the needs of a global growing population tomorrow*? The
short answer is yes. But with a caveat as this will require a major
overhaul in how we operate within our agricultural systems, rural economies
and natural resource management.

The report cuts straight to the heart of FAO work on the Sustainable
Development Goals: to live in a sustainable world by 2030 we have to take
into account the trends and challenges that we see for food and agriculture
in the future.

Please visit the webpage to download the report and other relevant
information www.fao.org/publications/fofa/en <http://bit.ly/2l72YlP>

We would be happy to receive your feedback on this report,
