Dear Subscribers,

Please see herebelow a message from Enamul Haque regarding the paper
*“Conservation
Agriculture for Rice-Based Intensive Cropping by Smallholders in Eastern
Gangetic Plain” *and the* "Manual for Smallholders' Conservation
Agriculture in Rice-based Systems." *

Thank you Enamul for sharing.

*Conservation Agriculture is an ecosystem approach to regenerative
sustainable agriculture and land management based on the practical
application of context-specific and locally adapted three interlinked
principles of: (i) Continuous no or minimum mechanical soil disturbance
(no-till seeding/planting and weeding, and minimum soil disturbance with
all other farm operations including harvesting); (ii) permanent
maintenance of soil much cover (crop biomass, stubble and cover crops); and
(iii) diversification of cropping system (economically, environmentally and
socially adapted rotations and/or sequences and/or associations involving
annuals and perennials, including legumes and cover crops), along with
other complementary good agricultural production and land management
practices. Conservation Agriculture systems are present in all continents,
involving rainfed and irrigated systems including annual cropland systems,
perennial systems, orchards and plantation systems, agroforestry systems,
crop-livestock systems, pasture and rangeland systems, organic production
systems and rice-based systems. Conservation Tillage and Minimum Tillage
are not Conservation Agriculture, and nor is No-Till on its own* (more at:

Subject: Complimentary copy of the review paper on Conservation Agriculture
research in Bangladesh.
To: Dear All,

Christmas and New Year’s Greetings to you, family, friends and colleagues.

A group of scientists recently reviewed the Conservation Agriculture
research and development work in Bangladesh and synthesised in a review
paper, title *“Conservation Agriculture for Rice-Based Intensive Cropping
by Smallholders in Eastern Gangetic Plain” *which has been published in
Agriculture Journal (doi:10.3390/agriculture9010005) on 22 December, 2018.
In this review paper on the practice of CA (i.e., minimum mechanical soil
disturbance, organic soil cover and crop species diversification) by
smallholders, the authors concluded that CA is an approach that could
improve soil health, decrease crop production costs, increase crop
production and profitability in Bangladesh.

This paper outlined the development of a form of CA suited to rice-based
cropping in small farms of the Eastern Gangetic Plain (EGP) with particular
reference to Bangladesh. In this paper, the authors also outlined the
roadmap for CA in Bangladesh and recommended some priorities of research,
extension and education. In addition, we recently published a Manual for
Smallholders' Conservation Agriculture in Rice-based Systems. (
http://researchrepository.murdoch.edu.au/id/eprint/41693*). A Bangla
version of the Manual will appear in the first half of 2019 and may be of
interest in your deliberations also.*

We hope the information of this paper would be useful for agricultural
policy particularly farm mechanization and Conservation Agriculture,

Please let us know if you need further clarification.

Apology if there are cross multiple posting.

Sincerely yours,

Enam
