Dear Subscribers,

Please see herebelow a message from Don Reicosky regarding his paper:

Reicosky, D.C. 2015. Conservation tillage is not conservation agriculture.
Journal of Soil and Water Conservation. 70(5):103A-108A.

Apologies for any cross-postings.

To All,

Concepts and definitions can grow complex and fuzzy as new agronomic
practices are developed and become implemented around the world.
Conservation Tillage is one of those terms that has become a synonymous
label for many different tillage and production systems, including
Conservation Agriculture. Use of terminology underlining the range of
tillage implements that can all be used within Conservation Tillage, but
have a wide range in the volume of soil disturbance and the degree of
residue incorporation. Similarly clarifying the large distance between a
change in mechanical manipulation of soil to the complex physical, chemical
and biologic changes arising with adoption of Conservation Agriculture
becomes even more challenging.

These issues were addressed in an article recently published in the Journal
of Soil and Water Conservation. The article is available for free download
at the link provided below: Open access has been restored for the Sept/Oct
issue. The article is linked here:

The literature citation is as follows:

I will be interested in your reaction to some of the thoughts and concepts
discussed in the above manuscript. Regards.

Don
