Dear Subscribers,

Please see herebelow a self-explanatory message from Didi Pershouse
regarding several events coming up, as well as a new round of her online
discussion course, Regenerating the Soil Carbon Sponge for Flood, Drought,
and Wildfire Resilience

starting
December 5th.

Read on for details, as well as a quick video demo that about why the soil
sponge is an elegant solution to so many current issues. The video also
includes a talk by Walter Jehne from Australia - *click here

*Conservation Agriculture is an ecosystem approach to regenerative
sustainable agriculture and land management based on the practical
application of context-specific and locally adapted three interlinked
principles of: (i) Continuous no or minimum mechanical soil disturbance
(no-till seeding/planting and weeding, and minimum soil disturbance with
all other farm operations including harvesting); (ii) permanent
maintenance of soil much cover (crop biomass, stubble and cover crops); and
(iii) diversification of cropping system (economically, environmentally and
socially adapted rotations and/or sequences and/or associations involving
annuals and perennials, including legumes and cover crops), along with
other complementary good agricultural production and land management
practices. Conservation Agriculture systems are present in all continents,
involving rainfed and irrigated systems including annual cropland systems,
perennial systems, orchards and plantation systems, agroforestry systems,
crop-livestock systems, pasture and rangeland systems, organic production
systems and rice-based systems. Conservation Tillage is not Conservation
Agriculture, and nor is No-Till on its own *(more at: www.fao.org/ag/ca).

I'm happy to report that the *Land and Leadership Initiative
<https://didipershouse.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6075151f49894b2c63289a22a&id=9b6d6c63e4&e=7906f4d8e3>*
is well underway. *We now have a growing community of people with a unique
way of looking at landscapes, who are starting to collaborate and work
towards land-based strategies for community and climate resilience.*

In the past two online discussion series, I've been honored by those who
joined as participants: people who run agricultural education programs,
people leading regional initiatives, people studying and teaching about
ecological systems, and people managing farm and range land around the
globe.

Each person has offered the gift of their experiences, thoughtful
responses, and their interesting questions. *In fact, the deep discussions
that happen during our two-hour class often continue for a full hour AFTER
class is over, with people of all ages and backgrounds discussing
strategies, laughing, and getting to know each other's unique contexts. *(And
I get to sit there and listen with delight as I make a sandwich and relax
after teaching!)* This is the value of facilitating in a way that sparks
discussion, rather than just dumping information. The course not only
teaches about the soil sponge, but also how to facilitate meetings and
classes in ways that build community.*

*where you
will learn *a blueprint for restoring the function of a watershed that can
dramatically reduce the impact of extreme weather events.*

*You will learn inexpensive principles for land management that will help
turn your yard, farm, or ranch back into a **soil sponge, to build flood,
drought, and wildfire resilience in your neighborhood and region. *

It serves as a grounding in land systems theory and as a prerequisite for
joining our participant-driven strategy sessions with leading teachers in
the soil health movement coming up this winter.

This course is perfect for people interested in leading and supporting
initiatives in their own regions--and who would like to have a community of
people with whom they can discuss strategies.

My teaching style is specifically geared towards creating “communities of
practice,” working groups of closely-connected people with common goals. *If
you are committed to creating a world that **works,** and are ready to
learn a new way of seeing landscapes, water, and people, then you are the
right person to attend.*

Want to join in the fun? (It's only two hours a week and I guarantee you'll
make some meaningful connections!).
*Five-Week Course Details:* This course will occur live ONLINE from 7:00 -
9:00 PM EST (New York, USA) on the following Wednesdays:

   - December 5
   - December 12
   - December 19
   - January 2

*to
let us know what would work for you when we schedule the next iteration of
this course.)

Participants will gather on Zoom Video Conferencing for these interactive
online classes. Classes will be recorded and made available to course
participants if you need to miss a class.

Our goal with these courses and upcoming strategy groups is to build
communities of people around the world who can lead soil health initiatives
in their own neighborhoods and regions, by demonstrating that *simple
changes in land management can literally change everything around us. *

Please respond to this email with any questions about this course, or if
you would like to participate but cannot afford the full price. *A few
spots in every course are reserved for participants who need to pay less.
Contact us if this is you. We are particularly interested in saving spots
for emerging leaders from the Global South.*

I look forward to learning together,
*Didi*
