Dear Subscribers,

Please see attached the announcement for and brief agenda of the upcoming
Webinar on SAMA implementation. The webinar is on:

*Operationalization of the Framework for Sustainable Agricultural
Mechanization in Africa (F-SAMA), *

*and will be held on Tuesday, 17th November 2020, 09:00 -11:30 hrs (GMT).*

SAMA stands for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization in Africa. It is a
framework developed by the African Union and the FAO. Launched in October
2018, it aims to inform policy and decision makers in the Member States,
the Regional Economic Communities in Africa, and the wider development
community dealing with agricultural development on the significance of
mainstreaming SAM in the overall national and regional agricultural
development programmes. SAMA includes the promotion of Conservation
Agriculture as a means to sustainable production intensification and
commercialization for smallholders in Africa.

The Webinar will provide the platform to share information and update
on theprogress
made by member states in operationalizing the framework. In addition to
presentations, facilitated discussion and questions and answers sessions will
be implemented to generate more insights into the issues being discussed.
Experts from FAO, AUC, ACT, Directors and Heads of Agricultural
Mechanization Services in SSA, and other mechanization stakeholders, will
share experience on the importance of mechanization.

*Conservation Agriculture is an ecological approach to regenerative
sustainable agriculture and ecosystem management based on the practical
application of context-specific and locally adapted three interlinked
principles of: (i) Continuous no or minimum mechanical soil disturbance
(no-till seeding/planting and weeding, and minimum soil disturbance with
all other farm operations including harvesting); (ii) permanent
maintenance of soil mulch cover (crop biomass, stubble and cover crops);
and (iii) diversification of cropping system (economically, environmentally
and socially adapted rotations and/or sequences and/or associations
involving annuals and/or perennials, including legumes and cover
crops).* *These
practices are complemented with other good agricultural production and land
management practices.* *Conservation Agriculture systems are present in all
continents*
