the Conservation Technology Information Center (CTIC) at Commodity Classic
booth 918, where Karen Scanlon, CTIC executive director, and Chad Watts,
CTIC project director, will discuss a variety of key conservation topics.
*Cover Crop Benefits*
One of CTIC’s exciting, ongoing projects is a seven-state study detailing
the benefits of cover crops—documenting the costs and returns of cover
crops and gathering detailed numbers from agronomic, economic and
environmental perspectives. In all, the project will help farmers,
advisors, researchers and policymakers do the math on cover crops and use
them more effectively to achieve key goals.
*Conservation Tour in Minnesota*
On August 11 and 12, CTIC will lead its eighth annual Conservation in
Action Tour in Minnesota. CIA Tours have drawn as many as 250
conservation-minded people from across agriculture and public service for
up-close explorations of key conservation farming practices.
The Minnesota tour will feature innovative partnership efforts that
contribute to conservation farming success. Details will be available at
the CTIC booth.
*Cover Crop Survey*

and the USDA’s Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education (SARE) program
will share their report from their 2013-2014 Cover Crop Survey, providing
insight into farmers’ thoughts on cover crops. Farmers can also take the
2014-2015 online survey to provide deeper insight—and enter to win one of
two $100 gift cards as a thank-you for their time.
*Drawings and Giveaways*
Visitors to the booth can enter CTIC’s drawing for Yeti Ramblers or handy
smartphone chargers, and everyone can pick up a packet of gummy worms and a
recipe for building a sweet soil profile that’s as tasty as it is
educational. (Teachers love them.)
It’s all part of celebrating the International Year of Soils. Join the
party and gather great information at booth 918!
