*Global CA-CoP* *CONSERVATION AGRICULTURE COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE*

*for sustainable agriculture and land management*

Dear Subscribers,

Please see herebelow an announcement from Didi Pershouse regarding a
webinar with Elaine Ingham, 7 November 2019.

They will discuss case studies that show what can happen when we restore
the health of soils and how profoundly that can improve crop health and
productivity, and resilience to drought, floods, and wildfires.

Apologies for any cross-posting.

*Conservation Agriculture is an ecosystem approach to regenerative
sustainable agriculture and land management based on the practical
application of context-specific and locally adapted three interlinked
principles of: (i) Continuous no or minimum mechanical soil disturbance
(no-till seeding/planting and weeding, and minimum soil disturbance with
all other farm operations including harvesting); (ii) permanent
maintenance of soil mulch cover (crop biomass, stubble and cover crops);
and (iii) diversification of cropping system (economically, environmentally
and socially adapted rotations and/or sequences and/or associations
involving annuals and/or perennials, including legumes and cover crops),
along with other complementary good agricultural production and land
management practices. Conservation Agriculture systems are present in all
continents, involving rainfed and irrigated systems including annual
cropland systems, perennial systems, orchards and plantation systems,
agroforestry systems, crop-livestock systems, pasture and rangeland
systems, organic production systems and rice-based systems. Conservation
Tillage, Reduced Tillage and Minimum Tillage are not Conservation
Agriculture, and nor is No-Till on its own* (more at:
http://www.fao.org/conservation-agriculture).

*Hello friends, *
Dr. Elaine Ingham and I had such a great time offering a webinar together
that we've scheduled a second one.

This 2.5-hour live webinar will occur on Thursday, November 7th, 2019, from
3:00 PM to 5:30 PM Eastern Standard Time (New York, USA).

In this second live webinar with world-renowned Soil Biologist Dr. Elaine
Ingham, she and I will discuss case studies that show what can happen when
we restore the health of soils and how profoundly that can improve crop
health and productivity, and resilience to drought, floods, and wildfires.

If you attend live, you can pose questions that will help to shape our
discussion.

This webinar builds upon the first one, "The Soil Food Web with Dr. Elaine
Ingham
<https://didipershouse.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6075151f49894b2c63289a22a&id=b4da347511&e=7906f4d8e3>,"
in which she outlined the soil food web and explored the functions that
soil organisms perform in a landscape. Access that webinar here

.

Dr. Ingham is an excellent teacher and was one of the first people I heard
speak on the subject of soil health--helping me to understand how
subterranean systems keep us, and our ecosystems healthy, and helping me to
fill in some missing pieces of the story as I was writing The Ecology of
Care
<https://didipershouse.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6075151f49894b2c63289a22a&id=5c60d83680&e=7906f4d8e3>.
She teaches and consults with farms all over the world and has decades of
hands-on experience.

This is a great chance to learn from her in an affordable way, from the
comfort of your own home. I hope to see you there! If you can't make it on
the 7th, you can also register now

and
watch the recording later.

*Dr. Elaine Ingham teaches that all soils, no matter how degraded can
become healthy and functional. This can only happen by creating conditions
in which soil organisms are allowed to do their work: to rebuild the
underground structures that allow land to soak up water; and convert the
inert sand, silt and clay particles into dynamic nutrients that plants can
actually use. *

As we explored in the last webinar, bacteria, fungi, protozoa, nematodes,
earthworms, and arthropods are all essential workers. We rely on their
intelligence and work to produce healthy crops that are resistant to
disease; healthy lawns, farms, and ranches that are resilient in extreme
weather events; and healthy humans.

In this second webinar, Dr. Ingham will present successful case studies to
show that land managers do not need inorganic fertilizers, pesticides or
tillage to grow healthy plants, and healthy, productive ecosystems. They
just need to learn how to collaborate with these underground workers.

*This webinar is offered on a sliding scale, and will occur on Thursday,
November 7th, from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM Eastern Time Zone (New York, USA).*
*A quick note about the pricing of our Land and Leadership Initiative

We want to make sure that every person who wants to learn about these
topics is able to access these webinars. Our webinars and discussions bring
in a wide variety of people from around the world. That's why the pricing
is on a sliding scale. If you can afford to pay a little extra, we will all
appreciate it!
