*Conservation Agriculture is an ecosystem approach to regenerative
sustainable agriculture and land management based on the practical
application of context-specific and locally adapted three interlinked
principles of: (i) Continuous no or minimum mechanical soil disturbance
(no-till seeding/planting and weeding, and minimum soil disturbance with
all other farm operations including harvesting); (ii) permanent
maintenance of soil mulch cover (crop biomass, stubble and cover crops);
and (iii) diversification of cropping system (economically, environmentally
and socially adapted rotations and/or sequences and/or associations
involving annuals and/or perennials, including legumes and cover crops),
along with other complementary good agricultural production and land
management practices. Conservation Agriculture systems are present in all
continents, involving rainfed and irrigated systems including annual
cropland systems, perennial systems, orchards and plantation systems,
agroforestry systems, crop-livestock systems, pasture and rangeland
systems, organic production systems and rice-based systems. Conservation
Tillage, Reduced Tillage and Minimum Tillage are not Conservation
Agriculture, and nor is No-Till on its own* (more at:

Dear Partners and Members,

As previously announced, the *3rd day of the "4 per 1000" Initiative will
take place in Santiago de Chile on the sidelines of UNFCCC COP 25, on 11
December 2019 at the FAO Regional Office for Latin America and the
Caribbean*.

*As the number of places is limited, I encourage you to register now via
the website dedicated to this event*:

https://4per1000day2019.sciencesconf.org/?forward-action=index&forward-controller=index&lang=en

*For those who participated in the Bonn or Katowice days, you can use the
same login and password to access the Santiago day website**.*

In addition, for those who will be in Santiago on *December 8* and who are
interested in the subject, *we are organizing, in collaboration with the
CCAFS and the World Bank, a workshop on MRV (Monitoring - Reporting -
Verification) methods for investing in soil organic carbon*. Practical
information on how to register and participate in this workshop will soon
be available on the Initiative's website, as well as on the website
dedicated to the 3rd day of the Initiative in Santiago. Space will also be
limited here, so please register as soon as possible.

Finally, as part of the *preparation of the discussions within the
framework of the Partners' Forum to be held on the morning of 11 December*,
the elected members of the Bureau are responsible for leading the
discussions within each of the colleges and returning the results of this
work to the plenary. *In this respect, you will soon be contacted by the
elected members of your college* (including partners of the college of
commercial and profit-making organizations who do not have a representative
on the Bureau) in order to participate in this consultation, which will
take place by electronic means of communication (teleconferences and/or
e-mail exchanges). *Thank you all for actively participating in these
exchanges in order to feed the syntheses that will be presented in Santiago*
.

We look forward to seeing you soon,

With kind regards,

Bien cordialement,
