*Pulses are praised for their health, environmental and economic benefits.
How can their full potential be tapped?*

Pulses are important food crops that can play a major role in addressing
global food security and environmental challenges, as well as contribute to
healthy diets.

In this discussion, organized in the context of the International Year of
Pulses, participants examined the benefits of pulses for food security and
improved nutrition while highlighting the challenges producers face. The
discussion also collected pulse recipes from all around the world.

*Youth – feeding the future. Addressing the challenges faced by rural youth
aged 15 to 17 in preparing for and accessing decent work*

Rural youth are the future of food security and rural poverty reduction.
However, youth in rural areas of developing countries face enormous
challenges in preparing for and accessing decent work, including in
agriculture. These challenges are even greater for youth under the age of
18.

This online consultation explored the solutions that can address these
challenges and served as a building block for the upcoming Expert Meeting
to be held by FAO at the end of 2016.

*Urbanization, Rural Transformation and Implications for Food Security -
Online consultation on the background document to the CFS Forum*

Urbanization and the transformation of agriculture, food systems and rural
spaces present challenges and opportunities for inclusive growth, poverty
eradication, economic, environmental and social sustainability, and food
security and nutrition.

The purpose of the consultation was to gain input on the background
document prepared by the CFS Secretariat to support the discussions at CFS
43 in October 2016 on *Urbanization, Rural Transformation and Implications
for Food Security*.

*Harnessing the benefits of ecosystem services for effective ecological
intensification in agriculture*

The next few decades will witness a rapidly increasing demand for
agricultural products, which will need to be met largely through
intensification of production. Ecological intensification - the
optimization of all provisioning, regulating and supporting ecosystem
services in the agricultural production process - has been proposed as a
promising solution.

The aim of this discussion was to foster a dialogue on emerging knowledge
from research on this approach.
