*Conservation Agriculture is an ecosystem approach to sustainable
agriculture and land management based on the practical application of
locally adapted three interlinked principles of: (i) Continuous no or
minimum mechanical soil disturbance (no-till seeding/planting and weeding,
and minimum soil disturbance with all other farm operations including
harvesting); (ii) permanent maintenance of soil much cover (crop biomass,
stubble and cover crops); and (iii) diversification of cropping system
(environmentally, environmentally and socially adapted rotations and/or
sequences and/or associations involving annuals and perennials, including
legumes and cover crops), along with other complementary good agricultural
production and land management practices. Conservation Agriculture systems
are present in all continents, involving rainfed and irrigated systems
including annual cropland systems, perennial systems, orchards and
plantation systems, agroforestry systems, crop-livestock systems, organic
production systems and rice-based systems *(more at: www.fao.org/ag/ca).

*Dear Amir,*

Hope everything is fine to you,

I am very pleased to kindly inform you on the publication of a
comprehensive book on the soils of Iran. This book has recently been
published by the Springer International
https://www.springer.com/gp/book/9783319690469. The 14 Chapters of the book
written by 25 distinguished soil scientists from Iran and abroad provide
valuable information on the soils of the country, compiling all relevant
soil research conducted over the last 50 years.

This unique book addresses Iran’s extremely rich soil diversity and
resources, which have developed under various climatic conditions ranging
from dry to humid conditions. It also provides comprehensive information on
the management approaches needed for sustainable soil utilization and
conservation under such conditions, and the attendant challenges. As such,
it offers a valuable resource for anyone interested in soils and
agriculture in Iran, but also in other Middle East and North African
countries with similar climatic conditions.

Chapter 13 entitled “Soil management in space and time” provides a
historical review of the soil management in Iran from the ancient to the
present time including indigenous knowledge to the recently adoption of
conservation tillage/ conservation agriculture in Iran.

Sharing the information on the publication of the book with colleagues
associated with Global CA-CoP Conservation Agriculture Community of
Practice and other relevant networks is highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot,

With my best wishes and personal regards,

M. H. Roozitalab
