*for sustainable agriculture and land management*

Dear Subscribers,

Please see herebelow a self-explanatory meesage from Did Pershouse.

She says: "This Thursday, June 6th, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM Eastern
Standard Time (New York, USA), I'll be offering a *single-day 4-hour
intensive on the soil carbon sponge, and its ability to improve regional
resilience to drought, flooding, and wildfires, while increasing the
nutrient density of foods, and putting atmospheric carbon to work building
the underground infrastructure that makes life on land possible. *

If you cannot attend this course on June 6th, you can still enroll and
watch the recording of the course later."

Apologies for any cross-posting.

*Conservation Agriculture is an ecosystem approach to regenerative
sustainable agriculture and land management based on the practical
application of context-specific and locally adapted three interlinked
principles of: (i) Continuous no or minimum mechanical soil disturbance
(no-till seeding/planting and weeding, and minimum soil disturbance with
all other farm operations including harvesting); (ii) permanent
maintenance of soil mulch cover (crop biomass, stubble and cover crops);
and (iii) diversification of cropping system (economically, environmentally
and socially adapted rotations and/or sequences and/or associations
involving annuals and/or perennials, including legumes and cover crops),
along with other complementary good agricultural production and land
management practices. Conservation Agriculture systems are present in all
continents, involving rainfed and irrigated systems including annual
cropland systems, perennial systems, orchards and plantation systems,
agroforestry systems, crop-livestock systems, pasture and rangeland
systems, organic production systems and rice-based systems. Conservation
Tillage, Reduced Tillage and Minimum Tillage are not Conservation
Agriculture, and nor is No-Till on its own* (more at:

*Hello wonderful people,*
I just wanted to give you a heads up of several events happening this
week--before I head out to watch my son Alden pitch in the semi-final
varsity baseball game for Thetford's high school. If they win this, they
will play in the finals at the stadium in Burlington, right before
graduation. It's the end of an era of "man-rearing" for me. Both of my sons
are pitchers, who are now heading out into the world to do other things
with their *accuracy of aim, incredible ability to maintain calm under
intense pressure, willingness to adapt and change as a complex situation
unfolds, and all-out hollering support for their teammates, even when it
looks like they are losing.*
*These are skills we all need these days*, which is why I started the Land
and Leadership Initiative
<https://didipershouse.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6075151f49894b2c63289a22a&id=94710745b0&e=7906f4d8e3>.
A leader, in my definition, is anyone working to make things go well around
them, whether their efforts are recognized or not.

Read on for three upcoming events that bring these same values to our work
with the interrelated challenges of flooding, drought, fire, economic
failures, soil degradation and more. These classes and webinars will show
you what is possible when we all act as leaders.
*A great opportunity to learn about whole systems landscape function with
my single-day online course*
This Thursday, June 6th, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM Eastern Standard Time (New
York, USA), I'll be offering a *single-day 4-hour intensive on the soil
carbon sponge, and its ability to improve regional resilience to drought,
flooding, and wildfires, while increasing the nutrient density of foods,
and putting atmospheric carbon to work building the underground
infrastructure that makes life on land possible. *

If you cannot attend this course on June 6th, you can still enroll and
watch the recording of the course later.

*The next webinar with Walter Jehne is this week*
In this second webinar I'm hosting with Walter Jehne we will focus on, and
answer questions about, the soil carbon sponge--the natural infrastructure
that underlies healthy functional landscapes and water cycles.

*This webinar will occur on June 12, 2019, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM EST.*

I ask people to pay something for our courses and webinars. I also want to
make sure everyone who wants access to this learning can access it. If you
can pay a little extra, it means I can offer financial assistance to
someone in India, Kenya, or to an indigenous Water Protector on Turtle
Island.
I'd like to sign up for the webinar.

We will also follow up on questions from our first webinar about restoring
water cycles for cooling and rehydration of landscapes at a local,
regional, and global scale. *That first webinar is now available on demand.*

*Upcoming Webinar with Vijay Kumar: How a state in India got half a million
farmers to adopt zero budget natural farming*
In our webinar on June 13th, Vijay Kumar will offer an overview of Zero
Budget Natural Farming (ZBNF) and describe the incredibly successful
adoption of ZBNF by over half a million farmers in the state of Andhra
Pradesh in India.

Vijay Kumar is an Agriculture and Co-operation Adviser to the Government of
Andhra Pradesh, India. For the past four years, he has been leading the
Climate Resilient Zero Budget Natural Farming Initiative in Andhra Pradesh,
which covers 500,000 farmers in the state. By 2024, his vision is to cover
all 6.0 million farmers in the state and to make the whole state a natural
farming state.

This project, in conjunction with the United Nations Food and Agriculture
Organization's Farmer Field School program, has a strong focus on
empowering smallholder farmers (primarily women) to increase production,
improve soil health, improve the soil sponge, and eliminate the need for
any commercial inputs (fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, etc.), thereby
providing freedom from the dependencies on corporations and a path out of
the despair that has led to a wave of farmer suicides in India.

*This webinar will occur on June 13, 2019, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM EST.*
