FAO-Carib-Agri is a service provided by the FAO Sub-Regional Office, Barbados =============================================================================
Dear Members,

DearFAO team,
We are making progress on a new RIENet website with a great deal of work on the back end having been completed. There are always one or two areas we need to straighten out during such a process so please bear with us through the changes.
This month's update includes some really interesting contributions about Caribbean consumers and Lucayan Farms in The Bahamas - a high tech growing operation. Our young ICT entrepreneurs are also going 'global' and achieving success. But one are we need to really progress is collaboration - both with and between Caribbean countries. It's vital for all our futures.
As always, if you no longer wish to receive these updates simply send a return email with 'UNSUBSCRIBE' in the subject line.
Kind regards
Ian Ivey

This month's R.I.E. Net Headlines
Regional Roundup
Collaboration - the way to go
One of the biggest challenges we face in the Caribbean is working together in a collaborative way towards a common future-focused goal. A number of projects and events we cover this month all focus on the importance of collaboration.

Our Champion
Shaped by experience
We are always on the lookout for unsung Champions - people who go out of their way to help others in a supportive and dedicated way. They are people who often quietly work away 'back stage' and who don't seek attention. They just get on with it. This month's Champion is one of those people.

R&D Update
The Caribbean consumer
There are many views from many different people about what they think Caribbean customers want when it comes to food and food and nutrition security. However most of those views are based on supposition and not real customer feedback.

Success Stories
Making a contribution
Food and nutrition security has become a focus point on the various policy agendas in the Caribbean over the past few years. In order to progress from an agenda item to a success story Governments and the Private Sector must be prepared to invest and take risks in order lead the way.

Value Creation
What customers really want!
What customers really want is something that we really need to understand better if we want to revitalise the agricultural sector in the Caribbean region.

Opportunities & Threats
A new resource
For a while foresight as a buzz word around much of the Caribbean but it seems to have faded in importance during the past several years, in spite of its need never having been greater. That need was beautifully summed up by some comments made in recent a Harvard Business Review blog discussion.
