Dear Caribbean colleagues,
FAO is pleased to inform you that the entire content of the recently published “Review of the state of the world marine fishery resources” (FI Technical Paper 569) has been published at the Fishery Resources Monitoring System (FIRMS) website in the form of 21 new fact sheets (18 marine resources and 3 fisheries) representing the updated contribution of the FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Department to the partnership.
Through relevant links to FIRMS partner’s State and Trend summaries now enabled within each of these marine resource fact sheet, FIRMS fulfills its promises to allow users to track down to regional and local sources the evidence underlying FAO’s global statements on the state of marine resources.
This collection of fact sheets is advertised in the FIRMS home page http://firms.fao.org through the highlight “FAO Review of the state of the world marine fisheries resources” linking to the introductory chapter “Global overview of marine fishery resources<http://firms.fao.org/firms/topic/166313/en>”.
The specific Fact sheet for the Western Central Atlantic Region can be found under the following link: http://firms.fao.org/firms/resource/11842/en
If you are interested to know more about FIRMS and would like to participate in validation of future fisheries resource inventories in the Caribbean, then please contact the FIRMS Secretariat. The validated fisheries and resources will be published in FIRMS and will constitute the regional and national evidence underlying FAO’s global statements on the state of marine resources for our WECAFC region.
In connection with this year’s 66th GCFI Conference the Western Central Atlantic Fishery Commission (WECAFC) is organizing together with FIRMS a WECAFC-FIRMS Workshop on Resources and Fisheries inventories. This will take place in Corpus Christi, Texas on 1-2 November.
So far 15 fisheries resources experts have informed the WECAFC and FIRMS Secretariats of their participation in this workshop. We still have space for 5 more experts in this workshop.
If you are interested to participate and have not received an invitation to this two-day workshop, please contact Mr. Raymon van Anrooy, at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> or Ms. Elena Balestri at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> .
Best regards
FIRMS-Secretariat
