Regional Fisheries Bodies of Latin America and the Caribbean meet in Rome, Italy.
A First Meeting of Regional Fisheries and Aquaculture Organizations of Latin America and the Caribbean, was held on Wednesday 11 July 2012 in Rome, Italy. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Alejandro Flores Nava, FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Officer, and took advantage of the secretaries and chairpersons of most Regional Fishery Bodies (RFBs) from the region attending the 30th session of the FAO Committee on Fisheries.
Regional Commissions that participated in the meeting included: CCPS, RAA, COPESCAALC, , CIAT/IATTC, OSPESCA, CRFM, OLDEPESCA, INFOPESCA and COPACO/WECAFC[1]<https://faobbmail.fao.org/owa/?ae=Item&a=New&t=IPM.Note#_ftn1>.
At the first meeting information was shared, which led to increased understanding of each others' programmes of work. Opportunities for increasing collaboration were discussed.
It was agreed that aquaculture and fisheries statistical data collection and analysis and information exchange and dissemination would be a first area of attention for increasing collaboration in the period 2012 - 2013. It is intended that a first collaborative effort should take place in 2013 in Chile, initiated by the Aquaculture Network for the Americas (RAA).
More information can be obtained from the secretariats of above listed RFBs, or from the [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>
