This Month's RIE Headlines

Around the Region

Making progress
Sustainability is an area that has been slow to gather attention in the Caribbean. But now the focus on what is fundamental for survival of the human race is starting to strengthen in our part of the world.

Champion of the Month
Greening Barbados
It is often people who grew up in the Caribbean and travelled overseas who come back and become innovators at home. We have featured many such Champions of change over the three and a half years since this network was first set up.  Most change comes from outside our comfort zones.

Research Update
A 3 Year Plan
Professor Neela Badrie, Deputy Dean of Research and Innovation in the Faculty of Food and Agriculture at UWI St. Augustine, researched and delivered an excellent paper that was recently finalised after delivery at the 'Adding Value to Local Foods for Food and Nutrition Security: Myth or Opportunity" workshop in Jamaica.

Success Stories
Using S&T for deliver real benefits
This month we feature a quite amazing story about a highly qualified Jamaican, Dr Denis Dudley, who spent many years in Canada pursuing a career in medicine. What makes Denis different is the approach that he took during his career and the latest directions he is pursuing.

Value Propositions
Crunch time for Credit Unions?
Over the past several years we have featured several articles about trends impacting upon the banking and finance sector. Because we have recently been involved in a session with T&T's Credit Unions in Suriname, it's worth revisiting the greatest challenges facing the sector.

Foresight and Innovation
New thinking about the future of food
Food and nutrition security is a big theme in the Caribbean - particularly because of the high levels of reliance on food imports. The main challenges are at the global level as what is happening internationally will impact directly upon us here in the Caribbean.
