PROFESSOR EMERITUS LAWRENCE ALDRIDGE WILSON

The University regrets to inform you of the passing of Professor Emeritus Lawrence Aldridge Wilson of the Department of Food Production in the Faculty of Food and Agriculture, on Monday December 2nd 2013.

Lawrence Aldridge Wilson graduated from the University College of the West Indies in Jamaica with the BSc (Botany Zoology Chemistry) in 1957 and the MSc in Plant Physiology (1960). He then proceeded to the University of Bristol, Long Ashton Research Station, where he obtained the PhD in Plant Physiology in 1964.

On his return to Trinidad and Tobago, Dr Wilson worked in the Ministry of Agriculture Central Experiment Station (1964-1967) and at The UWI, Faculty of Agriculture (FOA), Department of Biological Sciences over 1967-1975 as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Plant Physiology/Biochemistry. In 1975, he was appointed Professor of Crop Science and served both as Head of that Department (1975-1980) and as Dean of FOA for three terms over 1981-1986 and 1991-1994.
On retirement from the UWI in 2002, Professor Wilson was appointed Professor Emeritus in The UWI, Faculty of Science and Agriculture.
He served as the Editor-In-Chief of the Tropical Agriculture journal from 2005 until his passing.
His funeral will take place on Friday 6th December 2013 at 10am at the Fatima RC Church, Bushe Street, Curepe, after which his body will be interred at The UWI cemetery.
The University extends condolences to his family.
