This Month's RIENet Headlines
Around the Region
Changing directions
Over the past month many things have been happening, all of which are likely to contribute towards future change in the region. Here is a quick roundup of some quite interesting developments.

Champion of the Month
A regional Champion
National interests tend to take a greater precedent over regional interests in many areas. That often makes it a challenge to encourage positive change and progress within the Caribbean region and is part of the reason why countries in the region are generally struggling to advance economically.

Research Update
Checking out the trends
For our region to progress economically and socially we need to become more globally competitive. That doesn't mean we need to find ways of making cheap things. It means we need to find ways in which we can produce and deliver high value niche products and services.

Success Stories
No easy journey
For most entrepreneurs the road to success has many twists and turns which can lead to unexpected outcomes. The difference between a true entrepreneur and 'the rest' is that he or she simply picks themselves up after they crash off the road and re-start the journey.

Value Propositions
Creative value
It was several years ago that we met a very young entrepreneur from Montserrat at 'Basil's Restaurant' in the Cobblestone Inn in St. Vincent. He was introduced to us by local food and nutrition Champion, Lennox Lampkin. He was just 11 years old at the time.

Foresight and Innovation
Being resourceful
One of the challenges we all have is being able to visualise how things may change in the short, medium and long term. Over the past four years we have used a tool called 'FutureSimT' (developed by Dr Nick Marsh and Ian Ivey of NEXT) to help young people participating in the regional CYSF programme to explore future options.
