Greetings from Georgetown, Guyana!

 

I wish to commend to you the IV International Congress on Biodiversity of
the Guiana Shield. This momentous event will be held under the theme
Leveraging our high endemicity, cultural diversity, and intact ecosystems
for inclusive growth and secure futures at the Arthur Chung Convention
Centre, Georgetown, Guyana during August 8 - 12, 2016. (Kindly see summary
attached).

 

Participants from Guiana Shield countries (Suriname, French Guiana, Brazil,
Colombia, Venezuela and Guyana), the Caribbean, Canada, Germany, the USA and
UK and other parts of the world will engage in discussions on a wide range
of topics including:

 

.       Biodiversity Inventory and Decision making;


.       Traditional Ecological Knowledge; 

.       Gender and Vulnerable Groups; 

.       Tenure and user rights; 

.       Non-timber Forest Products; 

.       Community Planning & Land Management;

.       Green Development; and Green Finance;

.       Effects of Logging, Hunting and Tourism;  

.       Impacts of Extractive Industries on Biodiversity; 

.       Livelihoods; 

.       Tourism;

.       Food and Agriculture;

.       Wetlands and rivers;

.       Climate Change;

.       Guiana Shield Flora and Fauna; and

.       Biomimicry.

 

 

The full programme shall be circulated and publicized soon. You may expect
the following general schedule for the days' events:

 

August 8:            Opening Ceremony and Cocktail Reception;

August 9 - 11:    Panel discussions led by keynote speakers; and four
concurrent presentation sessions daily by leading scientists, practitioners,
policy-makers, community representatives and students.  August 11:    IBG's
General Assembly and the official IV IBG Closing Reception. 

August 12:          Tours and field trips to various places of interest,
along with training workshops.

 

The language of the IV IBG Congress is English, however, translation
services will be provided for French, Spanish and Portuguese speakers.
