Dear FAO team,

This month's update really accentuates the positive and the opportunities that we have in the region. We still have some way to go to realise the inherent value that is in abundance throughout the region. Our challenge is to embrace the fact that we live in the 21st century and we need to quickly adopt 21st century ways of doing things. If we do, there is no region why our region should not thrive. If we don't - well that's really not something I am sure most citizens in the region really want to head towards!

Due to overseas travel commitments, the next site update will be about 2 weeks later than normal and Facebook updates less frequent. As always, if you do not wish to continue receiving these automatic updates, please simply send an email to HYPERLINK "mailto:ian.ivey@nextcorporation" ian.ivey@nextcorporation with 'Unsubscribe' in the subject line.

Kind regards

Ian Ivey

This Month's RIENet Headlines

Around the Region
Entrepreneurs creating value
In our roundup this month, we feature a number of things that have happened in the region which illustrate what real entrepreneurship is all about - as do most of our other articles this month. It is not just a matter of what entrepreneurs are doing but also what is available to help them.

Champion of the Month
A real team effort
This month we are not featuring a person as such but rather a whole team of Champions who are delivering something which has always been lacking in the region - collaboration and the sharing of information and knowledge.

Research Update
National Innovation Systems
Many in the region know Phillip Jackson from St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Phillip has a passion about both his country and the region and has invested a huge amount of effort into various projects and initiatives to try and make things happen.

Success Stories
A hi-tech entrepreneur
This story starts with a man by the name of Dr Andre Jones, a Jamaican who gained a doctorate in organic chemistry at Howard University in Washington DC. He is trained as a synthetic organic chemist, a role which entails the analysis and synthesis of complex organic molecules.

Value Propositions
Who is getting what?
On Saturday, July 21st, the Cocoa Research Unit (CRU) celebrated its 50 year anniversary as an institution, one that evolved from a section at the old Imperial College of Agriculture in Trinidad and Tobago that was originally set up in 1930.
