Dear FAO team,

It's very encouraging to see what some of our up and coming entrepreneurs in the region are doing. It's also positive to see a more focused approach to agriculture evolving. I am sure you will find this month's selection of stories quite fascinating.

Any entrepreneur wishing to be considered to participate in CARIRI's new world class business incubator can send their details to me by return email.

As always, if you no longer wish to receive these e-alerts simply type 'UNSUBSCRIBE' in the subject line and return to me.

Kind regards

Ian Ivey
Facilitator - RIENet

This Month's R.I.E. Headlines

Around the Region
Entrepreneurship on a roll!
Over recent months we have seen an upsurge in practical initiatives to encourage entrepreneurship, innovation, and business development. There has also been a shift in focus from 'perceptions' to 'reality'.

Champion of the Month
Detoxing our environment
Human activities are impacting negatively upon the environment that we are all living in - pollution, global warming, land degradation, deforestation. But in many parts of the world there are serious moves underway led by people who care about the future state of world.

Research Update
Who does it best?
Over the past month Judith Francis at the Holland-based Technical Centre For Agriculture and Rural Cooperation (CTA) commissioned several pieces of research in preparation for a major regional sector workshop titled 'Adding Value to Local Foods for Food and Nutrition Security: Myth or Strategic Option?'

Success Stories
Focusing on the unique
In the Caribbean region we have much that is unique. Around the world, customers are looking for the unique. They want to be different to everyone else and have experiences or possess things that they can tell all their friends and acquaintances about.

Value Propositions
Getting down to the fundamentals
The term 'value propositions' essentially describes the value an end user (customer or client) places on a particular product or service for their personal, commercial or professional use.

Foresight and Innovation
Long-term value creation
In order to improve the economic and social well-being of the citizens of the Caribbean nations, there has to be a greater level of value creation across the board. If we look at the 'Jamaica 2030 National Development Plan', it essentially calls for a 250% increase in value of everything.
