Dear dairy stakeholders,
This is to let you know that in Uganda we aim to celebrate World Milk Day on 19 June (as we count the whole month of June as ‘dairy month’). It will be a regional event in Southwest Uganda, in Lyantonde District, and the Minister for Agriculture, Hon. Vincent Ssempijja (MP), has indicated that he will officiate at the event. The main organiser of the event is Dairy Development Authority, jointly with the local district government and supported by the SNV/TIDE project.
The selected theme is: “Enhancing quality milk production for improved milk safety and profitability”.
The proposed activities shall include:
The main celebration will include an Exhibition by Dairy private sector stakeholders, providing products and services of relevance to commercial dairy farmers.
It will take place on 19th June 2019, at Lyantonde playgrounds.
The dairy farmers in Lyantonde district and neighboring areas will be the main beneficiary at the different stalls of the Exhibitors.
The dairy sector will celebrate that Uganda has within the last few years shot to prominence as the second largest dairy exporter in Africa.
The occasion will also be used to showcase the almost 300,000 children are benefitting from school milk in the region;
Promotion of the parent-led school milk feeding at selected primary schools will take place to share with them milk and milk products from local processors in the region; and to talk to them about benefits of consuming the milk products.
Milk products from the processors will be in plenty; chilled pasteurized milk for the participants will be availed by one processor.
Corporate Social responsibility gifts to selected health facility and school/community with special needs children: to share with them milk products.
Engaging primary schools in presentations in form of skits and poems on main celebrations day and awarding winners.
Marketing drives in Lyantonde town, and use of media to publicize the Event.
A total population of 3,000 is expected on the day of the Event.
On behalf of DDA and SNV/TIDE.
With kind regards,
Rinus van Klinken,
