Hi All,
It is with great pleasure that I can report back to you after the very successful 27th EIFAAC Session and Symposium held a Finland, Hämeenlinna, at the end of October 2012. At this important meeting we have completed the restructuring of EIFAAC into a project based organisation, which is now well focused on key strategic projects in the inland fisheries and aquaculture sector. When we talk about "projects" in EIFAAC we simply mean that all our work, whether it is development of advice or best practices guidance, is developed, managed and delivered through a project approach. All EIFAAC projects are now based on good project management principles, time bound and deliverable focused. I've attached a simple figure below which is intended to capture how EIFAAC is structured and is operating.

I'm also delighted to report that the EIFAAC members formally elected a Management Committee and a Technical and Scientific Committee (please see tables below), which have started work with great gusto. Over the past period we have transferred a number of the old EIFAAC Working Parties into projects and established a number of new project, I will update you further on the detail of these developments a later date.

There is one specific project that I would like to draw your attention to namely the Freshwater Invasives Networking for Strategy (FINs) Conference April 2013, which is bringing together a select group of invited International speakers to support the development of European policy on the issue of aquatic invasive species (please see: http://finsconference.ie/). Can I please request your support is circulating this link to the appropriate interested parties in your country at your earliest convenience as conference attendance numbers are restricted? Could I also please ask you to report back to me on the success of announcing the conference.
Finally, I would like to thank you for your continued support. EIFAAC focal points are critical to the success of EIFAAC and also essential in ensuring that members' requirements and inputs are considered and acted upon within EIFAAC. Thus I would request your continued support, that you also continue to build networks of interested parties in the inland fisheries and aquaculture sector and that you act as EIFAAC ambassadors in your home country. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Dr. Cathal Gallagher, EIFAAC Chairperson.
