FAO Work Planning meeting for year 1 of the USAID-funded Emerging Pandemic Threats phase 2 (EPT-2) Programme in Ethiopia

Following a technical consultation meeting on Ebola virus and MERS Coronavirus in Rome in January 2016, and the FAO regional programme launches for East Africa in Nairobi (12-13 January 2016), this meeting was the final in a series of country-level engagements in which specific activities were planned and outlined for the period March to September 2016, and marked the validation of activities to be implemented until September 2016 with national implementing partners and other stakeholders in Ethiopia...[Read more<http://www.fao.org/ag/againfo/programmes/en/empres/news_030616.html>]

Le Réseau d'Epidémio surveillance du Ministère de l'Elevage, des Pêches et des Industries Animales a constaté des fortes mortalités des volailles au sein des bâtiments d'élevage des reproducteurs du Complexe Avicole de Mvog-Betsi, à Yaoundé. Au regard de cet état de fait, une mission de la FAO se rendra au Cameroun dès le vendredi 27 mai 2016. [cid:image016.jpg@01D1BDAC.921C5550]Impact of the Ebola Virus Disease Outbreak on Market Chains and Trade of Agricultural Products in West Africa


Using the outcomes of a technical consultation meeting organized by FAO in December 2014 in Dakar, Senegal, with the support of CIRAD, and building on past studies conducted by FAO and other partners, the report presents an analysis of the impact of the EVD outbreak on agricultural market chains. Seven market chains were selected and studied based on their importance to regional food security, the risks associated with Ebola and the extent of disruptions caused by the outbreak. This includes rice, cassava, potatoes (as an example of horticultural products), cocoa, palm oil animal products, bush meat and cocoa in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
