FAO Work Planning meeting for year 1 of the USAID-funded Emerging Pandemic Threats phase 2 (EPT-2) Programme in West and Central Africa



[cid:image003.jpg@01D1A6EC.EDA03FD0]The first national FAO work planning meetings in West Africa for the FAO Component of the EPT-2 were held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso and Conakry, Guinea. These meetings marked the first in a series of country-level engagements in the West and Central Africa sub-regions in which specific activities were planned and outlined for the period March to September, 2016. FOCUS ON ::: Vol. 10-2016



Vaccination can play a valuable role in control, prevention and elimination of highly pathogenicity avian influenza (HPAI) viruses in poultry. However, risk of adverse consequences as well as concerns about availability of sufficient resources to conduct vaccination programmes often restrain countries from embarking on vaccination. This document discusses concerns regarding poultry vaccination for H5 HPAI, with the aim to facilitate decision making in affected countries or those at risk of H5 HPAI incursion.
