Dear colleagues,
I would like to bring to your attention an important forthcoming event. The first Multistakeholder Dialogue on Biodiversity Mainstreaming across Agricultural Sectors (Dialogue) will be held at FAO headquarters in Rome from 29 to 31 May 2018. The opening will begin on Tuesday 29 May at 10:00 hours. The Dialogue will be followed by a High-Level Segment starting on 31 May 2018 at 10:00 hours, which will provide an opportunity to Ministers to discuss the outcome of the Dialogue.
The invitation, including the registration procedure, and the provisional agenda are published on the website http://www.fao.org/about/meetings/multi-stakeholder-dialogue-on-biodiversity/en/, where further documents and information will be posted.
The Dialogue will be conducted in English, French and Spanish. The informal Dialogue is open to FAO Members and observers from all stakeholder groups, such as governments, producer organizations, environment organizations, NGOs, indigenous peoples, private sector and research.
The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), in its COP Decision XIII/3, welcomed the Biodiversity Mainstreaming Platform launched by FAO to build bridges between sectors, identify synergies, align goals and develop integrated cross-sectoral approaches to mainstream biodiversity in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors. The 40th Session of the FAO Conference welcomed FAO’s initiative to act as a Biodiversity Mainstreaming Platform and requested that it facilitates, in collaboration with its partners, such as the Convention on Biological Diversity and other UN organizations, the integration in a structured and coherent manner of actions for the conservation, sustainable use, management and restoration of biological diversity across agricultural sectors at national, regional and international levels. As a first activity of the Platform, FAO will convene an informal multistakeholder dialogue between the environment and agricultural sectors to consider national, regional and global mainstreaming experiences, identify areas of joint action in developing integrated approaches for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, and consider future priorities of the Platform.
Kind regards
Irene
