Dear colleagues,
This email provides information on the recently completed, ongoing and forthcoming FAO activities related to capacity development in feed analysis laboratories.

1. First phase of the FAO-TAMU Aflatoxin Proficiency Testing has been recently completed. For further information, see news item released this week:
http://www.fao.org/ag/againfo/home/en/news_archive/AGA_in_action/2016_First_phase_FAO-TAMU_Aflatoxin_Proficiency_Testing_completed.html

2. Second phase of the FAO-TAMU Aflatoxin Proficiency Testing will start in July 2016. Announcement for this will be made in the coming weeks. It will be open for laboratories that participated in the first phase as well as for other laboratories. There will no participation fee. So make the best use of this programme.

3. Feed samples for the FAO-IAG Proficiency Testing for (http://www.fao.org/ag/againfo/home/events/form_profiency-test_2016.html ) for chemical constituents will be dispatched within this month to the laboratories that have registered. They should get ready for the analyses.

4. The response for the FAO-TAMU online course (http://www.fao.org/3/a-be800e.pdf ) has been overwhelming. This year we increased the number of seats from 20 to 32. The applicants have been informed of their selection/non-selection, as the case has been. The course starts on 31 May 2016.

A relevant management quote: "You can't improve what you do not control, you can't control what you do not measure, and you can't measure what you do not define."

Following good laboratory practices including integration of quality control systems in feed analysis laboratories and participation in proficiency testing programmes are vital steps towards generating robust data in your feed analysis laboratories.

Best regards,

Harinder Makkar
