Survey on the use of medicated feed and antibiotics used for growth promotion, and on the legislation regulating them

Within the framework of its activities addressing Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), the FAO-facilitated Feed Safety Multi-stakeholder Partnership<http://newsletters.fao.org/c/13CviVTU2Rm4zcAezKXI6OxpA> and the FAO Legal Department <http://newsletters.fao.org/c/13CviXWDPfiFcDJkji32gVbH3> are gathering information on the use of medicated feed and antibiotics used for growth promotion, as well as on the legislation regulating them. The information gathered will be used to prepare a publication and guidance material on the role of feed legislation to reduce the overuse and misuse of antimicrobials in animal production and on how to regulate medicated feed production and use.

We aim to have a better understanding of:

1. the production, distribution, sale and use patterns of medicated feed and antibiotics used for growth promotion; and

2. the legal frameworks regulating and controlling them.

Who should fill out the survey?

· Feed producers and the organizations representing them
· Governmental officials working on feed regulation and control
· Livestock producers (users of feed or medicated feed)
· Pharmaceutical companies and the organizations representing them

Your feedback is very important and your answers will be handled confidentially. Thank you for participating and sharing the survey with relevant parties.

Do you think regulations in the production, distribution, sale and use of medicated feed could help reducing the spread of antimicrobial resistance?

Yes? No? Not sure? <http://newsletters.fao.org/c/13Cvj44Rap8r6XaBvTj0Lf8xs>

· Has it been difficult to gather the information asked for in the survey?

· If yes, why do you think it was so difficult?

· What do you think would be needed to improve data and information availability on the production, distribution, sale and use of medicated feed and in the legislation regulating them?
