:: Open webinar on Business continuity during FAST disease outbreaks
Issues and opportunities ::
31 January 2022 from 14:00 to 17:00 CET
Background: Foot-and-mouth disease and similar transboundary animal diseases (‘FAST disease’) remain permanent threats to European livestock production. FAST disease epidemics usually have serious and frequently catastrophic impact on animal health and welfare and are disruptive to the livestock production value chain due to movement restrictions and trade bans that are imposed for controlling the outbreak. The risk for disruption can be reduced by preventing incursion, ensuring better preparedness for managing outbreaks, and helping EU neighbouring countries with eradicating these diseases. A strict eradication policy as it is foreseen today must include all partners, from the competent veterinary authority, farmers, veterinary professionals, farm suppliers, to the rendering companies.
Platform and connections: The meeting will be held on Zoom platform. The access to the meetings will be granted with the registration link. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Workshop context: The EuFMD workplan aims at improving national and regional capacities in FAST disease emergency preparedness and includes the establishment of a discussion forum with different public and private stakeholders on best practices to increase collaboration and engagement of the private sector in prevention and control of FAST diseases, concerns and challenges of disease control for the private and public sector, and better ways to raise awareness on FAST diseases among the private sector stakeholders.
A Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Initiative for Anticipating FAST-Disease Outbreaks was initiated to explore collaborations between private and public partners and academia in the prevention and control of FAST diseases in a structured and open discussion. The initiative involves representatives of European private sector organizations (EU and non-EU Member nations).
Objective: Present European and global examples of business continuity during FAST disease outbreaks and the issues and opportunities they may impose. Share positions and initiatives of the public and private stakeholders.
In a first webinar, which took place on 18 March 2021, success stories on public-private partnerships in livestock production in Europe and other parts of the world were presented.
The PPP Initiative now plans a second webinar on 31 January 2022 from 2pm to 5pm CET that will address the following topic Business continuity during FAST disease outbreaks – Issues and opportunities.
The webinar is open to disease control and animal health experts, livestock production specialists, economists, sociologists, epidemiologists from private and public sector institutions across the world and will be chaired by Koen Mintiens, Quantitative Risk Assessor at EuFMD.
