FAO Animal Health Service (NSAH) is proud to present two new publications to support animal health authorities and partners with recommendations and guidance on comprehensive and practical steps for One Health investigations of SARS-CoV-2 in animals.
Recommendations for the epidemiological investigation of SARS-CoV-2 in exposed animals

Acknowledging the zoonotic nature of SARS-CoV-2, it is important to better understand the COVID-19 epidemiology in potential animal hosts and investigate possible transmission between humans and animals.

Through a One Health investigation, by jointly analyzing laboratory and epidemiological information on human and animal cases collected by public health and veterinary services, this publication will help improve the understanding of the epidemiology of COVID-19 and potential transmission between humans and animals.

Investigating potential recombination of MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2 or other coronaviruses in camels

With dromerdary camels being the main reservoir for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) and the current pandemic spread of SARS-CoV-2, there is a risk of different betacoronaviruses recombining when co-circulating in the same host.

This publication will provide guidance for investigations into camel susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 and potential recombination between MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2 or other coronaviruses in camels, supporting early-detection of such events.
