Dear all,

Every month we are proposing a controversial or inspiring theme to debate on through a dedicated internal virtual Forum. Your opinion matters and the Forum gives us the opportunity to exchange ideas with colleagues in a safe environment not open to non-FAO people.

During this month, we are addressing VEGANISM.

Find below some interesting material which might give you food for thought:

* see here<http://goo.gl/0IdOK8> an article by Jimmy Smith on veganism where he argues that it is not the key to sustainable development.

* according to a study-the first of its kind to link both individual health and the Earth's-a vegan diet can really up the ante on both fronts. The study's results show that 8.1 million deaths can be avoided annually across the globe if more people adopt a vegan diet. See here<http://goo.gl/oFNnIY>.

* sorry vegans, here's<http://goo.gl/RByNdV> an article on the new study in Nature which makes clear that without an early diet that included generous amounts of animal protein, we wouldn't even have become human... at least not the modern, verbal, intelligent humans we are.

* ever wondered what would happen if everyone on the planet stopped eating meat right now? See an interesting video here<https://goo.gl/nGuSCV>.

This is the last week for you to post comments. Access the FAO Livestock Technical Network's forum<http://goo.gl/GBbWMH> to share your knowledge and join the discussion. We will share a summary of the discussion on Friday 30 September, don't miss out!
