UK Development Agency welcomes new focus on results and greater efficiency
DFID released summary MAR Update reports on 24 agencies last Thursday, 18 July 2013. Eighteen more will be published later this year. Each report shows how well DFID thinks agencies have done to address weaknesses identified by their original MAR in 2011. FAO and 11 other agencies have made "reasonable progress" since 2011 according to DFID, whilst 12 have made "some progress".

Highly hazardous pesticides should be phased out in developing countries
The tragic incident in Bihar, India<http://bit.ly/14bozJX> where 23 school children died after eating a school meal contaminated with monocrotophos, is an important reminder to speed up the withdrawal of highly hazardous pesticides from markets in developing countries, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said today.

Agribusiness: Public-Private Partnerships Country case studies
Public-private partnerships (PPPs) are being promoted as an important institutional mechanism for gaining access to additional financial resources, sharing risks, and addressing other constraints in pursuit of sustainable and inclusive agricultural development.
FAO's Rural Infrastructure and Agro-Industries Division (AGS)<http://bit.ly/19hEUBa> has released twelve country case studies on agribusiness public-private partnerships (PPPs). The Gender and Land Rights Database at Madagascar
The Gender and Land Rights Database<http://bit.ly/16PqGXR> launched its first online discussion in JUNE 2013 through the Land Portal. This way of communicating was chosen to encourage dialogue and sharing of information, experiences and concerns on land security of women in Madagascar<http://bit.ly/1a4fSIC>, specifically on the reconciliation between customary and statutory law to promote women's land rights<http://bit.ly/18uyzkL>.
The online discussion was essentially focused on the achievements and continuing challenges in the realization of equitable land tenure in Madagascar<http://bit.ly/14bqzSh>, as well as on women's empowerment and their influence in customary law-making processes.
