International Forest and Farm Producer Conference

[cid:image006.jpg@01D8D4A3.ABD26600]

Around 200 participants from 32 countries across Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America, including government officials and forest and farm producer organization representatives, took part in the five-day Conference, which consisted of plenary sessions, working groups, a field trip and a share fair.

The Conference provided a common understanding of challenges faced by grassroots organizations and shared best practices on developing climate-resilience business models, for example through the diversification of seeds, value chains, products, financing mechanisms and markets.

Recommendations from the Conference were shared with the Global Forum of the UN Decade of Family Farming 2019-2028.

The Conference provided a rare opportunity for smallholders from all over the world, some from remote areas, to network, learn from each other and build a unified grassroots voice.

Forest landscape restoration led by local communities in Togo and Madagascar

'Our diamonds are our forests'

[cid:image007.jpg@01D8D4A3.ABD26600]Madagascar has one of the highest rates of deforestation in the world. Much of its native forest has been cleared - 45 percent in the past 60 years alone.
Under the African Forest Landscape Restoration initiative (AFR100), Madagascar's ambition is to restore 4 million hectares of forest landscape by 2030. The Forests4Future project, now celebrating its second anniversary, is supporting the Government and local communities to achieve this ambition.
