Dear all,
This week, the International Conference of Forest Education<http://www.fao.org/forestry/forest-education/conference/en/> is taking place online. Over a thousand experts will come together to discuss how forest education can be improved around the world.
Forest education at all levels - from primary schools to universities - is insufficient in many countries of the world, according to the results of a global survey<http://www.fao.org/forestry/forest-education/97368/en/> by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Tropical Timber Organizations (ITTO) and the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO).
Some of our FFF partners are leading two sessions (under breakout group 2.4, see here<http://www.fao.org/3/cb5264en/cb5264en.pdf>) about the role of community groups, producers organizations and civil society organizations in teaching people about forests.
On Wednesday 23rd June at 15:15 CET, you will have the chance to hear from three different people representing producer organizations in Tanzania, Kenya and Latin America:
· Tanzania: Theodora Pius, National Network of Farmers' Groups in Tanzania (MVIWATA)
· Kenya: Geoffrey Wanyama, Farm Forest Smallholder Producer Association of Kenya (FFSPAK)
· Latin America: Marisela Fernández, Mesoamerican Alliance of Peoples and Forests (AMPB)
The session will be translated into English, French and Spanish. If you would like to watch the live webcast of this session, go to: http://www.fao.org/webcast/home/en/item/5592/icode/.
On Thursday 24th June at 08:30 CET, presentations from Noora Simola, Food and Forest Development Finland (FFD)/AgriCord and Anna Bolin, Senior Researcher, International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) will be given. You will also hear practitioners' perspectives from The Gambia and Nepal:
- The Gambia: Kanimang Camara - Director NACO, Service Provider on Community Forestry.
- Nepal: Janak Acharya - programme officer FECOFUN, Apex Forest Federation with Focus on Community Forestry.
This session will be conducted in English only, and will not be webcasted.
If you want to register and participate in one or the two sessions on Zoom you can send me an email and despite the registration deadline has expired, our FAO Forestry team here has kindly agreed to insert a few more participants.
We hope you will be able to join us.
Kind regards,
Forest and Farm Facility team
