Highlights from Stockholm+50 events

North-South exchange inspires collective action for Kenyan tree growers

[cid:image003.jpg@01D895E6.FEB82F90]In 2012, a visit from Swedish foresters inspired Kenyan tree growers to establish the Farm Forestry Smallholder Producers Association of Kenya (FFSPAK). 4 500 members from six producer organizations united to protect forests and boost livelihoods, growing to represent over 40 000 members from 17 organizations ten years later.

A Day at Sida: multi-stakeholder dialogues ahead of Stockholm+50
[cid:image006.png@01D895E6.FEB82F90]Leaders from forest and farm associations, Indigenous Peoples and the international community came together on 1 June to exchange experiences from the ground on climate action. Topics highlighted included access to climate finance, biodiversity, land tenure rights and the food security crises.

Gender equality at the heart of new Ghanaian Federation
[cid:image009.jpg@01D895E6.FEB82F90]The Ghana Federation of Forest and Farm Producers (GhaFFaP) empowers rural women through mentoring, advocacy and capacity building initiatives. Representing one million producers, of whom nearly half are female, GhaFFaP recently created a Women's Champions Wing. The Wing strives to raise women's voices in agriculture and weaves women's autonomy into the fabric of GhaFFaP.

Video - Rural women campaign
[cid:image012.png@01D895E6.FEB82F90]The World Rural Forum (WRF) and the Eastern and Southern Africa small-scale Farmers Forum (ESAFF) have joined forces to promote the empowerment of rural women through rural cooperatives. The campaign's first video highlights Tanzania, a bustling hub for cooperativism and flourishing women entrepreneurs.

AgriCord General Assembly
[cid:image015.jpg@01D895E6.FEB82F90]AgriCord General Assembly took place in Finland in 20-21 June and brought together 22 AgriCord member agencies and their mandating farmers organizations from 5 continents. It was opened by the newly appointed CEO Alessia Musumarra, who called for greater unity of farmers organizations, stronger alliances and hard work towards common goals. The global food crisis and the important role of farmers organizations in the transition to sustainable food systems were central themes in the panel discussions.

Coming up: international conference in Viet Nam
[cid:image018.jpg@01D895E6.FEB82F90]From 22-26 September, over 150 international stakeholders and producer organization leaders will discuss how business models can foster diversification and will share experiences, challenges and lessons learnt on building climate resilience and food security. Some sessions will be live stream. The conference will help strengthen the synergy of grassroots organizations with governmental institutions, the private sector and finance institutions. It will also include a field visit to local cooperatives.

Next FFF Steering Committee meeting

Before the meeting, SC members will have the chance to witness FFF's ongoing work on the ground to develop their recommendations for the FFF partnership.
