Hi! we received videos from AFA members but no active participation. I'll share the videos with Cory and you to keep in our files in any case.

Dear Pauline, and partners,

Is the FFF going to participate in this event finally (Innovation Forum<https://www.innovationforum.co.uk/conferences/sustainable-landscapes>, 3-5 November) ? I would like to know in order to plan its announcement on the FFF website if needed, and eventual tweet, or FFF webstory if relevant.

Cheers,

Marguerite

Dear Anna and Sophie,
I thank you very much for your reactions and input.
Unfortunately there is a little misunderstanding. Through the facilitators, I am mainly looking for videos (phone is fine) from FFPOs answering the following questions:

     * What prevents you from increasing your (members) farm's income?
     * Is there an action from a buyer or NGO that has really helped? What was it and how did it help?
     * What's the number one thing that you would like your customers to do to help you and your family?

Having only one slot, for AFA a priori, is indeed limiting. And I also agree with you Anna that representation is more than weak in the programme. On the one hand, it is because the programme was filled in a while back. same slots were offered to IUCN.
On the other hand, I know it is disappointing but having one representative and the videos is the first step. It is a foot in the door of these platforms. Even though maybe a baby step, it is a first one and hopefully FFPO's presence will increase exponentially.

In this light, do you think you can arrange some testimonies on video all framed around the above?

Thanks very much!!
Pauline

Hi Pauline, We have several examples indeed. E.g the examples in Vietnam with the organization of the cinnamon and acacia producers which now are value adding in cooperatives (for also export) is a strong one. Main topics would be organization & internal governance structure, capacity development and access to information, (linking to) investment. Choosing one is a bit limiting...

Cheers, Sophie

Dear Pauline

It strikes me that there is currently only corporates or NGO's speaking about smallholder farmers engagement. There is a very strong supply chain management flavour, with little recognition of large smallholder farmer businesses as potential partners or their agency. How about Pacita Juan from our steering committee giving the perspective from her position on the Philippine women in coffee alliance board? As well as various other business council and positions she are in that work with women farmers in particular - she could also recommend speakers. Also, in Bolivia El Ceibo and FEDPRACAO are examples of FFPOs that can demonstrate real scale and market share. It strikes me there need to be someone who can help shift this perspectives that smallholder farmers are "small" and part of a supply chain management strategy rather than key players in some countries where they do have strong FFPOs with scale (land and volume produced not to mention their other biodiversity and livelihood contributions from their promotion of diverse agroforestry systems).

Best wishes

Subject: Voices of farmers - international corporations event

Dear team,
As most of you may know (and perhaps disapprove ;)), the other part of my job is to work with and influence big corporations for them to mainstream sustainability in their operations.

In this context, I have been collaborating with the Innovation Forum<https://www.innovationforum.co.uk/conferences/sustainable-landscapes> in the last two years. They organize every year a "Sustainable Landscapes and Commodities Forum. Forests, farming, finance, governance and sourcing: how business can transform supply chains, drive resilience and empower communities".
We have been telling them that it lacked the voices of FFPOs. Even though it is not ground breaking yet, this year, they have decided to improve.
There are 2 opportunities:

  1. Collect farmers voices through video (mobile or zoom) answering the following specific questions (if possible in English):
     * What prevents you from increasing your farm's income?
     * Is there an action from a buyer or NGO that has really helped? What was it and how did it help?
     * What's the number one thing that you would like your customers to do to help you and your family?
  2. I have asked them to invite a representative of an FFPOs in at least one of the sessions. And have approached AFA. See programme attached.

They would need only 2 testimonies but my thinking is if we get more, it could interest them to feature the voices more prominently.
Is this something you would be interested to ask our partners in the field ?
Kindly let me know what you think asap.

Best wishes,
Pauline
