THIS MESSAGE IS ONLY FOR BRITISH CITIZENS RESIDENT IN ITALY
The British in Italy team (Ms Diana Dennington, FFOA Member) has asked to pass this message (Newsletter of the British in Italy Team) to as many British citizens resident in Italy as possible. Below is the newsletter of the British in Italy team.
RESIDENZA
The British in Italy team met with the British Embassy for an update meeting on 27th February 2019. The meeting went very well and a number of points arose which we are passing on to you. British in Italy were praised for their work, in general, and more specifically on the policy papers which have been presented, not just to the Italian ministries, but also the British Embassy to help with ongoing negotiations.
However, despite the niceties we had a more serious discussion about the need to be registered as a resident in Italy BEFORE 29th March 2019 to ensure that you will retain your EU rights under a no deal Brexit scenario. The British Embassy are very keen to stress this message and would like to reach as many people as possible. They, and we, feel that there are still quite a number of people who are a) putting their head in the sand and hoping Brexit will go away b) do not fully understand the implications of not being registered and c) maybe do not even know what they need to do.
Therefore, we agreed that we would run a campaign through this newsletter with the aim of reaching as many British people living in Italy as possible.
THE CAMPAIGN
The objective: to spread this newsletter as far and as wide as you can by forwarding it onto as many people as you know on your email list who may be, or may have contact with, UK Nationals living in Italy.
With the power of 'passa parola' or 'passa E-newsletter' in this case, we can see how many people we can reach.
You may think that you have done this already, but please do it again! Send it out, but ask every one you send it to to read the newsletter and for each and every one of them to send it out to their list of people as well. It doesn't matter if it is received more than once by the same person. At least we know that it is working if it comes back to you.
This really is the last push we can make to reach as many people as possible. We know there are young people who are working in Italy, but perhaps do not understand the rights they will lose if they are not registered. We know there are older retired people who are scared and worried about Brexit and are frightened into not doing anything, we know there are others who are married to Italians and think that they are going to be OK and maybe don't need to do anything, and many more. But they do and need to act quickly.
So this is it......one last push.
There isn't the time to do this again and anyone who doesn't get the message and act now will, unfortunately for them, lose their current rights if they are not registered, or have made an appointment or have lodged an application to be a resident in their comune before 29th March 2019.
As usual, we would like to thank each and every one of you for your help and hope that this message spreads far and wide! Even one forward could make a difference.
