Dear Members,
A New Year has started and it is, regrettably, much the same as the year that we have just left behind; however, there is ‘ light at the end of the tunnel’ and we hope we will gradually be able to get back to a near normalcy.

Many members have called or written to FFOA to enquire whether and how they may access the Covid-19 vaccination programme being undertaken by the Government of Italy, especially since many are outside the National Health system.. FFOA has been in discussions with FAO since November requesting FAO to include UN retirees in any Covid vaccination program that it may plan. FAO is designated by the UN Secretary General as the responsible party for all matters regarding the UN Agencies/entities in Italy and is currently in discussions with the Italian Ministry of Health regarding Covid-19 vaccinations. For the present there is no time frame envisaged and FAO continues discussions with the Government of Italy on this issue and the modalities to include UN staff and retirees in a vaccination programme.

FAO advises that all those that can enrol in the National Health system (ASL) should now do so; FFOA has indicated to FAO that many retirees are excluded from joining the national health scheme and separate arrangements and modalities need to be considered to get vaccinations for retirees without formal enrolment in the national health scheme.

FFOA will inform members of any developments in arrangements to get vaccinations for UN retirees in Italy.

On the medical front, we are informed that BMIP/MMBP premiums for FAO, WFP and IFAD retirees in 2021 will be the same as those of 2020… no increases.

In line with the current Covid situation in Italy and the regulations and advice of the Government, we expect that the RBA Headquarters buildings will be closed to non staff until at least mid March 2021.

Your Committee continues to monitor developments on all fronts and will keep members informed of changes.

In order for you to keep up with the changes/restrictions being imposed by the Government and the designation of Regions into Red, Orange or Yellow zones and what you can and cannot do, you might want to consult the following website: https://covidzone.info/

Keep safe and well.
Regards,
FFOA Executive Committee
