Dear Members,

As internet users, we have to be continuously mindful of our accounts, emails and browsing activities and be on the alert for suspicious links or sites. During peak holiday periods, we should be particularly careful.

When users feel overly secure they are more likely to open an unfamiliar email, enter their personal details (e.g. full name, email addresses, password), or click on sites carelessly.

The IT Division within FAO randomly remind staff to take the following precautions:

1) Turn off your computer before you leave the office or each evening if you are working remotely.

2) Be mindful of email and browsing activities and be on the alert for suspicious links or sites.

3) Do not open unknown source files (such as PDFs or Word documents) and be careful when clicking on links.

4) Use a different password for your FAO network account than those you use privately.

5) Do not share your password with anyone inside or outside FAO.

6) Avoid sharing personal information online in general, unless with known and trusted sites.

The above precautions are more important for us, former staff, because we do not use a secured network like the one at FAO HQs, and Internet access is often made with mobile devices like tablet, laptop PC, smart phone. Nowadays everyone is vulnerable and must remain vigilant.

We will keep you informed of any updated IT-related information as required.

Thank you for your attention and have cyber-safe Internet navigation !
