FLASH 26 AFTER SERVICE MEDICAL PREMIUMS...UPDATE
Following action by FFOA in challenging the increase in medical premiums for FAO retirees as of March 2019 and the retroactive collection of underpayment of premiums from January 2018 to February 2019, we are happy to announce the following news which was officially announced at the FFOA Coffee morning of 3rd April:
1. FAO has admitted that mistakes were made in calculating the correct premium increases which were not in line with those previously announced in FAO Admin Circular 2018. You can check premiums information by referring to FFOA Newsflash 16 (Feb 18) and Newsflashes 24 and 25 sent out in March 2019. New emails will be sent to retirees informing them of the corrected new premium for the remainder of 2019 and details of how reimbursement of overpaid premiums will be made.
2. FAO has decided NOT to collect any retroactive premium amounts that were under-paid from Jan 2018 to Feb 2019.
3. Premiums should be given in the currency of the plan you are enrolled in viz Euros for the Euro plan and $ for the dollar plan so as to avoid any further confusion.
4 For those who retired after January 2018 and have not paid any ASMC premiums, FAO will calculate premiums to be paid ( according to ADMIN Circular 2018/1) and will arrange to schedule payments over 8 months from May to December 2019; members can negotiate alternative arrangements if repayments exceed 10% of pension receipt,
5. We are seeking clarification on whether retroactive payments will also be halted for retirees from WFP and IFAD and will issue another Flash when this is clarified
FFOA has been challenging FAO administrative actions on ASMC premiums for over 1 month and we are happy that a satisfactory outcome has been achieved. A legal defense strategy was also formulated. It is important that members contact FAO Administration (and WFP and IFAD) if they feel that they are being treated unjustly and copy their complaints to FFOA so that all parties are duly informed; contacting FFOA alone is insufficient as the Administrations themselves should be aware of the scale of discontent.
FFOA will be involved in the arrangements for the upcoming tenders for medical insurance for the Rome based Agencies and will endeavour to safeguard the interests of our
members under the various medical plans.
