Dear Mountain Partnership members and friends,

We take this opportunity to share with you this invitation to contribute to the Joint Body on the Status of the Mountain Snow Cover (JB-SMSC)<https://cryosphericsciences.org/activities/jb-status-mountain-snow-cover/>.

The JB-SMSC is a collaboration between the International Association of Cryospheric Sciences (IACS), the Mountain Research Initiative (MRI) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Global Cryosphere Watch (GCW), with an overall goal to highlight the relevance of mountain snow cover for ecosystems and people.

The project aims at providing a sound understanding of the current status and gaps in observations of snow cover in mountain regions of the world and enabling the sustained provision of quality data sets on mountain snow cover, together with an in-depth analysis and evaluation of snow changes and the underlying processes as they relate to specific user-driven applications. The project results will be documented in the form of high-quality data sets, publications, manuals/protocols for international standardization and analysis tools, and will be disseminated through a range of channels.

The JB-SMSC is organized around four key Work Packages (WPs)<https://cryosphericsciences.org/activities/jb-status-mountain-snow-cover/#smscWPs>, namely:

*         WP1: Mountain snow data quality control and homogenization for use in climatology and hydrology;

*         WP2: Status of snow cover multi-decadal changes in mountain regions of the world;

* WP3: Snow accumulation processes; and

* WP4: Snow ablation processes - research gaps in mountain snow modelling.

In order to co-design and carry out the specific tasks and sub-tasks that support the planned deliverables for these WPs, a call for expressions of interest is made for individuals with the relevant expertise to register their commitment to join and contribute to the JB-SMSC.

The interested participants can register their interest directly onto the online forms Form 1<https://www.jotform.ca/220411709714348> or Form 2<https://cdn.jotfor.ms/220411709714348> or by submitting expressions of interest to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> before 24 June 2022.

For questions and additional clarification, please contact the WMO Secretariat, Ms Rodica Nitu, Project Manager, Global Cryosphere Watch ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>).

With kind regards,

The Mountain Partnership Secretariat
